\nEverything is Bright. All Things are Beautiful.<\/strong><\/p>\n

NoMI is proud to present a curated exhibition by contemporary artist Dwight Hwang, whose work explores the relationship between nature, movement, and preservation through the traditional Japanese art of gyotaku.<\/p>\n

Originating in Japan during the mid-1800s, gyotaku was once used by fishermen to document their catches before photography existed \u2013 creating direct impressions using the specimen itself, ink, and paper.<\/p>\n

The exhibition serves as a prelude to\u00a0NoMI x The Imprint Experience<\/em><\/strong>, debuting Fall 2026 as part of Park Hyatt\u2019s Masters of Food & Wine series. The limited-run experience will feature an intimate omakase experience with the return of Chef Masa, live gyotaku by Dwight Hwang, and a rare Japanese spirits pairing.<\/p>\n

The new public art exhibit We the People: Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Beauty in Greektown Chicago<\/em> celebrates the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence with 40 vibrant outdoor and indoor artworks along South Halsted Street in from Madison Street to Van Buren Street in Chicago’s Greektown neighborhood. The original works by 27 professional and emerging artists and 13 Chicagoland Greek schools take additional inspiration from the Statue of Liberty and the ideas of ancient Greek thinkers, creatively exploring the themes of the Declaration. This special art exhibit is free to attend daily now through May 2027. What did Congress mean when they declared that \u201call men are created equal,\u201d that people had an unalienable right to \u201cthe pursuit of happiness,\u201d that the British King was a \u201ctyrant,\u201d or that the former colonies were now \u201cFree and Independent States\u201d? How did contemporaries of all kinds in 1776 interpret these words? And how might our own understandings differ, 250 years later?\u200b<\/p>\n

This exhibition at the Newberry Library, anchored by a rare early copy of the Declaration of Independence, invites visitors to survey the words of the founding document of the United States, to consider some of the surprising ideas behind those words, and to trace their circulation and impact in the age of the American Indira Freitas Johnson is a sculptor, cultural worker, peace activist, and educator whose work explores the intersection of art, community, and social change. Born in Mumbai, India, Johnson received her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is included in collections such as the Library of Congress, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, and the Rhode Island School of Design Museum. A special pop-up exhibit Declarations: 250 Years of Writing Toward Independence<\/strong><\/em>, open at AWM
\nfrom Thursday, June 18 to Monday, September 7 (Labor Day), the museum will display an 1823
\nWilliam Stone print of the Declaration of Independence, as commissioned by then Secretary of State
\nJohn Quincy Adams, along with a 1776 British first edition of Common Sense by Thomas Paine
\nadvocating for the independence of the U.S. colonies. The exhibit will also invite visitors to reflect on
\nworks by writers throughout American history that are thematically related to the Declaration,
\nincluding President Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Harvey Milk and
\nMartin Luther King Jr. Interactive elements will include a Declaration of Independence erasure poetry
\nsection, allowing visitors to edit the founding document into their own words.<\/p>\n

Declarations: 250 Years of Writing Toward Independence<\/em> (June 18\u2013September 7) is included with general admission. Tickets to the museum are $16 for adults, $10 for seniors, students, and teachers. Free for

Tangible Sound: Arrival to a Higher Ground<\/em> creates a sensory and celebratory experience of jazz art forms that connect<\/em>, uplift<\/em>, and transform<\/em> our human spirit by translating the power of music into color and movement.<\/p>\n

Together, photographer Lauren Deutsch<\/strong>, filmmaker Jonathan Woods<\/strong>, and the Tangible Sound Collaborative<\/strong> created an immersive exhibition celebrating Chicago\u2019s creative improvised music community. The exhibition is inspired by the early experimenters whose boundary-breaking practices have influenced generations of visual and sonic artists.<\/p>\n

This exhibition is dedicated to Ancestors Timuel D. Ornament & Information<\/em> presents a group of artists who live and work in either Chicago or Vienna. Through direct or indirect means, these artists’ practices engage and expand upon a historic intercity dialogue that spans the realms of modern architecture and mid-century free-market economics. The ideational pipeline between Chicago and Vienna has never necessarily been of a one-to-one nature; rather, it is a product of certain intellectual characteristics developed by one city being then synthesized and transcended by the other. It is with this synthetic character in mind, and the synthetic nature of modernity in general, that the work and practices herein operate, salvaging perhaps some sliver of potential for living from the scrapheap of history.<\/p>\n

Don your armor, pull out your spellbooks, and straighten your crown; Castle<\/em>, presented by Shriners Children\u2019s, is coming back to Chicago Children\u2019s Museum. In this original exhibit, children explore a castle complete with secret tunnels, a rope bridge, tower, dungeon, throne room, wizard’s room, kitchen, feasting table, market and more. In this bespoke fantastical experience, the only limit is one’s imagination. The exhibit will open May 23, 2026, and run through to Jan. 10, 2027.<\/p>\n

Castle<\/em>, developed by CCM staff, takes a modern approach to the familiar theme of castles and fairy tales. Visitors will be inspired to dress up like royalty, guard a secret dungeon, prepare a mighty feast, sell goods in the market, search for a mystery dragon, and more. Children will be able to choose from hundreds of custom-made costumes and props, allowing them the role-playing freedom to create their own adventures.<\/p>\n

Castle<\/em> will have an extended run to celebrate the seasons with special decorations and activities.\u00a0In the fall, the space will shift to include a spooky redesign of the wizard\u2019s space, fall-themed foods in the market, and more.
